Bread Upma is a much forgotten different snack which makes a good breakfast option. I would say…..An easy and quick breakfast option! My kids love this recipe and I am blessed because I can go for it on any lazy day….You can use any leftover breads, multi grain breads and if you like a crunch you can always toast the bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • Handful curry leaves
  • 2 slit Green chillies, deseeded
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida
  • Handful Coriander leaves
  • Chopped Onions
  • 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 1 ½ tomatoes, deseeded
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp Chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup Water
  • ½ Lemon juice
  • 6-8 Bread slices/ 4 Buns, cut into pieces

Method

  • Put the butter on the pan; once it melts add the mustard seeds.
  • After the mustard seeds have spluttered, throw in curry leaves and chillies. Then add in asafoetida and coriander leaves.
  • Throw in chopped onions into the pan, don’t let them brown. Just sweat them out and then add garlic
  • Again add the tomatoes and keep stirring. Add in the turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt.
  • After the tomatoes have softened add water and lemon juice.
  • When the mix has boiled and reduced, toss in the cut bread slices and coat it with the mix.
