Smoothies are endlessly adaptable. Just blend until smooth and you’ll be on your way!
Fruits and veggies are the base of any smoothie, so load up on these healthful ingredients! To keep your smoothies nice and cold in the morning, freeze chopped fruit and veggies in individual portions and toss as much as you need in the blender in the morning.
Most smoothies require some amount of liquid or ice to come together. Water or ice are always a fine option, but any other liquid you have on hand can make a fun flavor addition. Juice (fruit or vegetable), milk (dairy, almond, soy, coconut), tea, water /Ice. You don’t have to look far for unique liquids to add to your smoothies. It is a great way to use a bit of leftover tea, coffee or even chai-spiced latte, if it will pair well with your other ingredients.
Thickeners are an optional ingredient, but are a surefire way to give your smoothies a nice creamy texture, add extra protein or nutrients, or simply to use that avocado in your fridge that’s too ripe for anything else. For thickening your smoothies, you can choose from

  • Avocado
  • Nut butter
  • Oats
  • Yogurt

Add extra ingredients for flavour or nutrition. The sky’s the limit here! You can choose from

  • Chia seeds
  • Chocolate
  • Coconut oil
  • Flax seeds
  • Ginger (fresh or powdered)
  • Herbs (mint, basil, parsley)
  • Spices (a pinch of cayenne or cinnamon)
  • Sweeteners (sugar, agave, honey, dates)

Have you ever heard the saying “The key to fruit smoothies is the fruit” Well, it’s true.

You can use fresh or frozen, fresh typically has more flavor, but go for whatever works for you!
