Ragi otherwise known as Red millet/ Finger millet are tiny grains mainly used for their health benefits. These powerhouse grains are high in protein content, rich in minerals such as calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron etc. They are anti-carcinogenic, provide good cholesterol and have anti-microbial properties. One delicious way of consuming these powerhouse grains is Ragi laddoo.

Here is one tasty and nutritious recipe made with ragi. My kids love these laddoos. Try these…..

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Ragi flour
  • 1/4 cup Seasame seeds
  • Quarter cup Peanuts
  • 1/4 cup dessicated Coconut
  • 4 nos. Green Cardamoms
  • 150 g Jaggery or Sugar (as desired)
  • 2 tbsps. Ghee

Method

  • Pour 1 tbsp. of ghee in a pan and fry the ragi flour till a nice aroma is obtained. Remove from flame after frying and allow it to cool.
  • Dry roast peanuts. Allow it to cool and remove the skin.
  • Dry roast seasame seeds and allow to cool.
  • Dry roast dessicated coconut and allow to cool.
  • Grate jaggery. If using sugar, powder it.
  • Again, mix peanuts, seasame seeds, dessicated coconut and cardamom and powder it in a mixer.
  • Add grated jaggery to the powdered mix and mix well.
  • Blend it together till oil oozes out. Mix ghee if required and make balls of the mix while its still warm.
  • Decorate with cashew nuts.
