It is good in controlling blood pressure, reducing cholesterol and also for improving the immunity. Gooseberry is otherwise called Amla in Hindi and Nellikka in Malayalam. Hence, this dish is popularly known as Nellikka Chammanthi in Malayalam.

Firstly, gooseberry has numerous health benefits making it a very popular fruit. It is very effective against diseases like diabetes, liver diseases and constipation. Gooseberry is also a useful component in remedies for diarrhea and dysentery. Secondly, it is used in many hair tonics as it enriches hair growth and hair pigmentation. Drinking gooseberry juice with honey is good for improving eyesight. It contains chromium, which has a therapeutic value for diabetic patients. Gooseberry stimulates the isolated group of cells that secrete the hormone insulin. As a result, it helps in reducing blood sugar in diabetic patients.

Gooseberry is highly rich in Vitamin C. As a result, during these Covid-times, gooseberries are high in demand as they are perfect immunity boosters.
