Papaya banana smoothie is a healthy and delicious smoothie and is a great starter for the morning. Its mellow taste is soothing to the palate. Growing up in Kerala, India, papaya was as ubiquitous a fruit as the banana. It was not my favourite fruit back then. I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder. Now, whenever I see papayas at the Asian food stores, I would buy them. Usually, we would just cut and eat it as a dessert after dinner.

Because of lockdown, I guess most of the food stuff was not getting sold on time and hence the shopkeeper was desperate to sell the left over papayas to me. So, I managed to get 3 papayas for a fiver. Not bad eh….😊

This time I decided to use a small portion of the fruit for this papaya banana smoothie. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect as I have never used papaya in a smoothie. To my surprise, it turned out to be quite delicious! To be frank, it is a great starter for the morning and very filling.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml Milk
  • 60 ml Greek Yoghurt
  • 1 tsp. pure Vanilla essence
  • 1 small ripe Banana, peeled and sliced
  • ½ large Papaya, ripe, peeled, seeded and chopped
  • 1 tsp. Honey
  • 200 gms. Ice cubes

 

Method

  • Combine the milk, Greek yoghurt, vanilla essence, sliced banana, chopped papaya, honey and ice cubes in a blender.
  • Blend the above ingredients until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour into a large glass.
  • Serve chilled!!
